Bar owner left in coma following attack

A POPULAR bar owner was left in a coma after he was assaulted outside his premises.

Alex Nettle remains in Salisbury District Hospital with serious head injuries after the attack near the Kludo Bar on Wednesday night.

Police say that a fire was started in the toilets of the bar and Mr Nettle (30) went to investigate.

He chased two men down Milford Street and was brutally attacked.

Mr Nettle was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital where he was put on a life support machine.

He spent four days on a ventilator and was moved out of the intensive care unit into another ward on Sunday.

"It is a very anxious time for the family," said Mr Nettle's uncle Jeremy Nettle, who is a former mayor of Salisbury.

"We are praying that he makes a full recovery."

The former owner of Salisbury's Internet Café, Mr Nettle opened Kludo several years ago and it is a popular venue on the city's bar scene.

"He has worked very hard to build up the business," said his uncle.

"He designed the bar himself and is very proud of it."

Wiltshire fire service say they were called to Kludo just after 11pm last Wednesday but the blaze was out when they arrived.

Sector commander for Salisbury police David McMullin said: "This is an isolated incident that we are investigating thoroughly.

"Our thoughts are with the victim and his family at this time."

Police have arrested two men - one on suspicion of arson and the other on suspicion of GBH. They have been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

This is a disgusting act of violance that was totally unnecessary. Strictor controls need to be made and harsher punishments to repeat offenders to stop these acts of mindless "thugary".
My thoughts are with Alex and his family and i wish him a speedy recovery.
