Ways to save water
WITH water bill rises announced last week, Wiltshire households are being advised they could save a third on water bills with one simple change.
Water meters have been proven to reduce water consumption by ten per cent. When combined with new tariff structures, water conservation messages and incentives for water efficiency, metering can lead to long-term reductions in water wastage and large monetary savings.
Chris Philpot, from Waterwise, said: "A water meter helps consumers understand exactly how much they use on a daily basis. It is the only fair way of paying for water as it ensures you only pay for what you use.
"We all use about 150 litres of water a day, and of that around 50 litres is wasted. By making a few small changes in behaviour and installing water efficient products we could reduce this wastage and save around a third on our water bills."
Currently only 30 per cent of people in the UK have a water meter, the rest pay a fixed rate for their water based on the rateable value of their home in 1970.
Mr Philpot said: "In the face of climate change and the need to build more and more homes for us to live in, we all need to waste less water through simple measures like turning the tap off when we brush our teeth, taking shorter showers rather than baths and only using the washing machine when it's full. Paying for what we use certainly helps us to appreciate the true cost of water."

Then they put the charges up by the amount of income lost.
Do you think we are stupid?
Giving us the gospel on how to save water is rather condecending and with todays awareness you are treating us all like dunces.

We have always paid for it, it's nothing new.
Whats new is the yearly price hikes based on idiots like this guy above justifying it with patronizing drivvle and blaming [bold]US[/bold] for water companies lack of investment in extra capacity.
It's been raining all year for gods sake!
Try more ways of capturing it and distibuting it, thats where the 'simple measures' start.
but that means re-investment and the shareholders don't like that.
Pouring money 'literally' down the plughole of profit mongers at our expense.
